Biomodule STA Light

The BioModule STA-Light is a stand-alone fingerprint recognition module based on Atmel’s thermal swipe sensor and a dedicated cryptographic and imaging processor designed by id3 Semiconductors. By incorporating powerful embedded fingerprint recognition algorithm, flash memory and advanced database management capabilities, it offers the best possible performance and security for embedded system applications.

Three operating modes are available :

  • Enrollement - A reference template extracted by biomodule STA light from fingerprints images is stored in its internal data base associated to an identifier.
  • Verification - A candidate template extracted from a live fingerprint is compared, inside the biomodule, against the set of reference templates associated to an previously sent identifier.
  • Identification - A candidate template extracted from a live fingerprint is compared, inside the biomodule, against the whole of reference templates contained in Biomodule STA light database.





Biomodule MOS

Biomodule MOS is an elementary component (sub system) targeting applications combining fingerprint recognition and smart cards. The biomodule MOS manages the whole secured transactions with cards.

Two different biometrics mechanisms are available :

  • Embedded match on smart cards - with this technology the reference templates and the matching algorithm are stored into the smart card itself. The comparison is integrally performed inside the card, without any data export. This technology allows outstanding performances and a high security level. It offers an efficient protection of fingerprints datas. this mechanism works only with the biometrics smart cards embedding id3 matching algorithm.
  • Embedded match on biomodule - with this technology only the reference templates are stored into the smart card. They must be exported in the biomodule MOS to be compared with the live fingerprint. In this mechanism the fingerprints protection remains good but less efficient than the previous one but in this mode any smart cards with encryption capabilities may be used.
Thanks to Biomodule MOS no fingerprint database is required.
